Baylor’s Arctic Acclimatization & Sleep Optimization Research Center is a first-of-its-kind facility that supports advanced, collaborative research and testing. It focuses on developing knowledge products and biomedical technologies to evaluate and reduce how factors in the Arctic affect different factors in soldiers and first responders, including sleep, cognitive abilities and physical performance.

“Americans and the Holocaust,” a traveling exhibit, is currently on display in the middle of the first floor in Jones H. Jones Library from April 11 through May 20. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the American Library Association presented the exhibit, examining the Holocaust through America’s evolving awareness of the event.

The City of Waco will kick off its annual free Brazos Night concert series on April 17, featuring Candlebox and Fastball at Indian Spring Park. The event has been a Waco tradition for over 35 years, having previously hosted other notable acts such as Whiskey Myers, Blake Shelton and The Chicks.

McLennan County contains a greater rate of food insecurity than any surrounding county, according to Dr. Sara Alexander, professor of anthropology with an adjunct position in the environmental science department. Her class, applied anthropology, has begun a research project in order to provide World Hunger Relief Inc. with the necessary information to establish new programs and evaluate current ones to alleviate this problem within the local community.

“It was already difficult for low-income families to find affordable housing, and in the last couple of years, housing costs have skyrocketed,” Alexander said. “The cost of building, property taxes, insurance — all of that has gone up, which affects the rental payments that people are paying, so the options for affordable housing are limited.”

Texas voters turned out in historic numbers Tuesday, delivering victories for State Rep. James Talarico and forcing a runoff between Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the state’s U.S. Senate contest that claimed national attention. The total early-voting turnout of more than 2.5 million marks the highest ever for a midterm primary election. The results also kicked off the 2026 midterm cycle.
