On Monday, Baylor’s Rho Eta chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., hosted an open forum, “Let’s Get EmpoweRED,” highlighting and discussing women’s mental health, substance abuse and finding community at Baylor as a Black person. Attendees included DST members, Baylor staff, alumna and students.
Graduate long jumper Alexis Brown became the first Baylor athlete to win a national championship in the long jump event at the NCAA Championships in Virginia Beach, Va., Friday. After a season of consistently jumping over 22 feet, the victory came as no surprise to Brown and her coaches.
Somewhere along the way, the word “feminist” got a bad reputation. It has been twisted into something extreme, something controversial — something people hesitate to label themselves. How many people have you heard say, “I’m not a feminist, but…” before voicing beliefs that align perfectly with feminist ideals? This just goes to show how misconstrued the word has become.
The polymath archetype is nothing new and has not gone anywhere. The arts, sciences and understanding of the human person dictate our collegiate and professional studies today, and in many cases produce scholars who fit the description. But who are these polymaths, and where can we find them?

WAXAHACHIE— Fire engulfed a Waxahachie chemical-mixing facility Monday, destroying the complex and emitting a cloud of smoke that could be seen clearly on the horizon more than 60 miles away in Waco.
A Texas chemical plant spokesman says employees who were inside the plant when a massive fire broke out were able to evacuate.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society will be hosting its annual Walk MS event at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The snake, a Red-Tailed Boa Constrictor was found on the McLennan Community College campus.

“Since July 1st, Baylor’s campus has had nine positives out of 48 tests,” Stern said. “And in the last month alone, we have had seven positives out of 29 tests, which is almost a 25% positivity rate.”

As Election Day nears on Nov. 4, Texans will vote on 17 proposed constitutional amendments, most related to taxes. Dr. Paul Mason, Baylor accounting professor, said many aim to help specific groups but come with financial trade-offs.
