Still, I have suggestions on how accommodations for students living on campus could be improved during the wintermester, as well as some advice for students who might be planning to be on campus during this time.

Yes, you can make resolutions and goals for the new year, but sticking to them is another thing. Be honest with yourself and look at attainable goals for the upcoming season.

Even amid all the allure of starting fresh, you still can’t help but wonder, “Where’s the magic that actually makes Jan. 1 any different than Dec. 31?” Does the new year serve as motivation to change bad habits, or is it just an excuse to prolong them until the beginning of the next year?

As college tuition continues to rise, students around the country are struggling with food insecurity, resorting to convenience and affordability at the sacrifice of sustainability and nutritional value. By implementing an on-campus compost and garden program, students would have easy access to fresh local produce.

With the end of the semester just a couple of weeks away, it’s time to start studying for finals. However, with everybody studying, it can be a challenge to find the perfect study spot. As a senior, I have had my share of last-minute study sessions and want to help anybody who might be overwhelmed with the end of the semester.

As finals week approaches, we need to check up on our fellow classmates and be open to having conversations about our mental health. Many of us, including myself, are guilty of keeping our anxieties bottled up until an outlet is provided to let out our emotions. When you notice that a classmate looks tired or hopeless, ask them how they are feeling and be open to listening to their worries.

As college students, most of our work is done on computers. It may be hard, but try to unplug yourself, even if it is just for a little bit. We stare at screens all day. Go outside for a little bit. Read a book. Engage your brain. Have fun.

If we want to increase community and foster growth within our students as Baylor encourages, perhaps it can start by slowly implementing these changes in order to create a better environment for gym attendees.

In a society that largely values aesthetic over practicality, it makes sense that buying a real Christmas tree is glorified on every media platform. However, real trees are a big hassle and create more problems than good. Fake trees are the way to go this Christmas.

I am not saying that you need to burn all your bridges and go out into the unknown. Just experience different things or hear different perspectives sometimes.

You don’t have to be thrilled to go home for the holidays. With most students becoming involved across campus through student organizations, participating in Baylor traditions and just finding overall community here in Waco, it can make leaving sentimental.

“All I Want for Christmas Is …” something new to listen to. Yes, the classics are fun to listen to, but dive deeper into lesser-known genres that also hold Christmas tunes.

Owning the piece of art that an artist has created is a key element in the creative process and requires more importance. The ability to control how their work is used should only be in the hands of the creator.

So, you’re going home for Thanksgiving break. If you were at Baylor last year, going home for Thanksgiving was weird — we literally got up and left for the rest of the semester. If you’ve been here since before 2020, you didn’t even have a whole week off for Thanksgiving. This break is noticeably different than any other Thanksgiving break we’ve ever had, and it’s OK to feel indifferent about it.

Studies show between 22% and 30% of college students are at any given time in their first year of grieving the death of a family member or friend. At Baylor, with an undergraduate population of 15,191 students, that means between 3,342 and 4,557 undergraduates are currently in their initial stage of bereavement. With such a significant portion of college students wading through the trenches of grief, it is difficult to fathom how there could be such a profound lack of resources for them.

While people enjoy these delicious “Mexican” places, it is important to understand these eateries differ from authentic Mexican food. Waco has the Tex-Mex style of food, but what can’t be found here is true Hispanic bites.

The issue with the Christmas season is that it starts too early. Every year on Nov. 1, everyone moves to put away the spooky Halloween decorations and put up the “Merry Christmas” ones. Mariah Carey infests every shopping mall in America, and other Christmas songs begin to fill the airwaves. By starting the season early, we are not only oversaturating Christmastime but also neglecting an equally great holiday: Thanksgiving.
