Former Baylor student Jasmin Hernandez plans to file a Title IX lawsuit against Baylor University for the way they handled her case. Hernandez was assaulted by Tevin Elliott, former Baylor student and football player in 2012. Baylor University has a security escort program to help enhance student, faculty and staff safety on campus. The security escort program will pick up any student, faculty or staff who do not want to or do not feel safe traversing the campus at night. The escort will take the student, faculty or staff to their desired location on campus or within the Baylor police department’s patrol response area. Baylor running back and Burkburnett senior Devin Chafin was suspended from the football team after being arrested on marijuana possession charges at 8:05 a.m Friday in Oklahoma. Chafin was traveling with Madill, Okla., senior Jennifer Kerr. The two were stopped 13 miles west of Grandfield, Okla.,on Highway 70 in Tillman County, according to a Facebook post by Tillman County sheriff. Phi Delta Theta president and Garland junior Jacob Anderson was arrested and charged with sexual assault Thursday. He was released from McLennan County Jail on a $5,000 bond at 5 p.m. Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton of the Waco Police Department told the Waco Tribune-Herald that a female was at a party in the 2600 block of South Third Street on Feb. 21. As of Jan. 2, the United States Defense Department lifted all gender-based restrictions for military service. Parnell McNamara was re-elected as county sheriff Tuesday. He received 66.31 percent of the total votes in McLennan County as of 11:28 p.m. Willie Tompkins and Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton were also running on the Republican ticket. There was no Democratic candidate. The Heart O’ Texas Fair and Rodeo scholarship fund is putting on its second annual Chili Fest this Saturday. The Chili Fest will take place in Heritage Square in downtown Waco at Third Street and Austin Avenue. The Chili Fest starts at 10 a.m., and there will be a public tasting and live band. The Waco Crime Free Multi-Housing Program is an initiative that helps provide peace of mind and safety for Waco area rental housing. The program was implemented to help reduce criminal activity in communities and helps create a partnership between police and owners of rental properties. The Waco Crime Free Multi-Housing Program is part of the international Crime Free Association. Police departments have started to use body cameras as another tool in fighting crime. McLennan County constables currently use body cameras. Precinct one currently has three body cameras and is working with the McLennan County District Attorney’s Office to get four more. Following suit, the Waco city council approved hiring a consultant to help the Waco Police department move toward buying body cameras in December 2015. The plan is to have the cameras implemented by October 2016. Precinct five has also started the process to get body cameras for their deputies. A woman was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of LL Sams Historic Lofts on Thursday morning. Waco police Sgt. W.
