George Schroeder | Broadcast Reporter Monday morning San Antonio Senior Julianna Comstock, an off-campus resident, woke up along with no power due to the winter storm sweeping through Waco. Comstock and her roommates decided to take a walk to campus that morning in order to warm up, but also to see what was going on outside. When they got on campus, they decided to see if the student union building was open. “We were freezing and we couldn’t boil water at our house, like nothing at our house was working or on, and the SUB was open, which was such…

George Schroeder | Broadcast Reporter Baylor celebrated the 19th and 20th birthdays of Lady and Joy, the University’s real life black bear mascots, last Friday at the Bill and Eva Williams Bear Habitat on campus. A long line of students waiting to take part in the festivities had already formed before the start of the event at 11 a.m. The event was themed around sustainability, and along with seeing the bears, the guests were given their choice of custom sustainable items such as a tote bag or a reusable straw. While students did have to wait in line for an…
Though it split fan opinion, this film ranks as my favorite in the entire series.
The Electoral College should be celebrated, not abolished.
By George Schroeder | Broadcast ReporterDedicated to my father and my grandfather. Many people are named after family members. This is not uncommon. I have known many, many people who have been named after their dad, mom, grandparents, great-grandparents and even aunts or uncles. However, I haven’t met many people who are fifth generation holders of their respective familial name, like I am.I am George the fifth. Starting with my great-great-grandfather, the oldest Schroeder boy has received the same name. Not to come across as arrogant or egotistical, but I am incredibly proud of my name. Not because of the name…
George Schroeder | Broadcast Reporter With two football game cancelations in a row, things were not looking good for Baylor’s 50th Baylor Line. However, even with no game, Baylor brought their freshmen and seniors to McLane Stadium to provide a pseudo-line experience. Students were given an opportunity to take their official line jersey photo, sign the Baylor line tunnel and the first several hundred students received free food from local Waco favorites. No football is certainly a disappointment for many Baylor fans, but those who attended the event seemed to be satisfied with the effort the university has put in…
By George Shroeder | Broadcast ReporterAlmost every time it rains, my dad sings the same, made up song. “It’s a rainy day… in the month of May” became a very recognizable tune in my house. Of course, it doesn’t rain exclusively in May, so the tune would become, “It’s a rainy day… in the month of May… but it’s not May, it’s February,” or whatever month we happened to be living in at the time. Only my family knows the tune, but all you need to know is that those were the lyrics, and my dad hasn’t won any awards…
By George Schroeder | Broadcast Reporter”I really hate to be the one that has to tell you this, but you are going to have to isolate yourself in your room for the next fourteen days starting from your date of exposure.” I don’t think I’ll soon forget my conversation with the kind lady from Baylor’s contact tracing office. Only one morning class into my freshman college experience, and this was one of the worst phone calls I had ever received.I came to Baylor knowing no one at the school or in the area. My parents, who lived only four short…
George Schroeder and Drake Toll | Broadcast Reporter Life on campus is different than ever before in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, and Baylor University has implemented strict guidelines to help keep students safe. Mask mandates and social distancing are common across campus, however some students may not be taking those precautions seriously. Filmed on Thursday night, a viral Twitter video captures dozens of students closely congregating on Fountain Mall, mostly unmasked. Cassie Nataro, a junior from Easton, PA, filmed and posted the video and was angered by what she saw. “I was furious,” Nataro said. “I was helping…
