2023 is the year of the rabbit, a symbol of hope and prosperity. Given the last two years, the luck of the rabbit is much needed. Thanks to East Market and Goods, the Waco community was able to experience just that.

Native American Heritage Month was only recognized nationally in 1990, a little more than 30 years ago. Baylor faculty member Mariah Humphries shares her personal experiences and thoughts of being a Native American in this day and age.
According to the Baylor Trends 2021 report, only 2.1% of students affiliate themselves with the Lutheran denomination, as opposed to 20.3% of students who consider themselves Baptist. This may not seem like a shocking statistic since Baylor is a Baptist university; however, Lutherans Doing Life Together, a group of Lutheran students, is creating a small slice of Lutheran community on campus.
The group of 15 students introduced themselves letting the audience know that even though they were from different majors, they had singing in common.
“I know that this is a trend, but we try to continuously find new things to keep people interested,” Walker said. “I foresee in the future maybe adding different things, I’m just not really sure right now, but we do keep thinking out of the box to keep it interesting and keep the momentum going.”
“I’m very grateful for those traditions looking back,” Renshaw said. “I definitely took them for granted at the time.”
Every semester, student organizations across campus volunteer in the Waco community through Steppin’ Out. This day of service doesn’t happen overnight; preparations begin at the start of each semester. On Saturday, there will be approximately 1,500 volunteers at Steppin’ Out.
This year, Diwali was celebrated from Oct. 23 to Oct. 26, but because of homecoming, the Indian Subcontinent Student Association (ISSA) wanted to host Diwali on its own day so that students didn’t have to choose between the events. ISSA’s first Diwali carnival will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday at Fountain Mall.

It’s unsettlingly easy to make a comment on someone’s post and forget until someone starts fighting back.
“That mortality makes every moment that we spend with our loved ones and with our friends even much more valuable,” Linares said. “We wanted to celebrate that to make it a party to make life a party, so everybody can come be a part of that.”
George W. Truett Theological Seminary offers a graduate certificate in sports ministry as an add-on to a master’s in divinity. By connecting sports with faith in the form of worship, this program reaches far beyond the world of athletics.
A unlikely group of college students, parents and post graduates, Walking Bears, raises money for the Alzheimer’s Association. They learn the inner workings of nonprofits from their leader, who is also a Baylor professor.
Roanoke senior and club internal vice president Lauren Nealy has been a member of CBL since her freshman year. She said she was originally a biology major on the pre-med track because she thought that in order to do ministry, she had to be involved in medical aid; she has since switched to accounting.
Since the homecoming game is at 11:00 a.m. this year, students and alumni are facing struggles with timing of other homecoming traditions such as alumni tailgate and the parade.
The Baylor Chamber of Commerce has accepted 60 homecoming nominees this year. Through a rigorous process of group interviews, only 14 students will officially be recognized on the homecoming court.
“When I went into this, I didn’t think that I would be as successful as fast as it’s been happening,” Smith said. “I obviously have more goals that I want to achieve. But so far, I feel really proud of what I’ve accomplished.”
No matter where these athletes compete, a common thread in their teams are the sports chaplains.
Autumn Moon is a celebration of the newfound season in Asian culture. Celebrated with lanterns, mooncakes and traditional practices, the Vietnamese Student Association is sharing a piece of their culture with the student body.
