The soccer team walked away from Betty Lou May Field Friday night with a win against Cal State Northridge, 1-0, making Baylor two for two at home with a season record of 2-0-1.

“We have had two games that we have gotten early leads which was nice,” head coach Marci Jobson stated. “But we have got to keep working on closing out games”.

Baylor started strongly by gaining the first goal of the evening after only the first nine minutes. Junior mid-fielder Hanna Gilmore assisted freshman forward Natalie Huggins in scoring her first career goal. Huggins beat the defender outside, shot for the far post and was victorious.

The Bears had a close call the last 10 seconds of the game, when Cal State Northridge came very close to scoring, but Baylor was able to hold them off.

“That was the longest six seconds of my life,” senior goalkeeper Courtney Seelhorst said. “It was a ‘never say die’ situation.”

“Good teams know how to win, but great teams fight until the last second”, Huggins said.

Seelhorst recorded her second shutout of the season and had four saves total for the evening. Defender Hannah Dismuke saved the game from being tied during the 17th minute of the game.

Sophomore Vic Hoffman came just inches from gaining another goal for the Bears during the 55th minute. Huggins and sophomore Alex Klein both had three shots for the night. The Bears outshot the Matadors 10-9.
