What to Do in Waco: Sept. 1-8

If you’re looking for something to do with your Labor Day weekend, here’s a short list of the best activities in Waco over the holiday.

Magnolia Tent Sale | Sept. 1-2, 4 | 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. | 601 Webster Ave. | With prices starting at $1, the Magnolia Silos is clearing out its warehouse. Swing by and grab furniture and other home supplies at a huge discount.

Waco Downtown Farmers Market | Sept. 2 | 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. | 500 Washington Ave. | This weekly event hosts local vendors, artisans and craftsmen in the heart of downtown Waco, accompanied by live music.

Baylor vs. Texas State football game | Sept. 2 | 6 p.m. | McLane Stadium, 1001 S MLK Jr. Blvd. | Ticket prices vary | Cheer on the Bears at home for the season-opening game.

Dr Pepper Paranormal Experience | Sept. 2 | 7 p.m. | Dr Pepper Museum, 300 S Fifth St. | Tickets are $35 | Experience a guided tour of the Dr Pepper Museum. Some have seen glowing orbs and mysterious figures haunt this Waco landmark.

Homestead Labor Day Sorghum Festival | Sept. 4 | 10 a.m. | Homestead Heritage, 608 Dry Creek Road | Join Homestead Heritage for the 29th annual Labor Day festival, with horse and carriage rides to the Brazos River outlook, live music, barbecue and more.

Howdy at the Hurd | Sept. 8 | 7 p.m. | Mark and Paula Hurd Welcome Center, 905 S University Parks Drive | Join Pi Beta Phi and Student Activities for a night of western fun! Chart-topping country artist Bailey Zimmerman will rock the Welcome Center, and students can grab something to eat from a number of food trucks before hitting the dance floor in their cowboy boots.

Hermès in the Heart of Texas: The Art of Kermit Oliver | Aug. 4 – Oct. 14 | 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. | Art Center Waco, 701 S Eighth St. | Art Center Waco presents a collection of art from Texas artist Kermit Oliver in collaboration with the iconic Hermès fashion house.

Texas, Your Texas: Celebrating 100 Years of The Texas Collection at Baylor | Starting Aug. 8 | 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. | Carroll Library, 1429 S Fifth St. | Carroll Library is showcasing rare pieces of Texas history and holding special events to celebrate the collection’s centennial year at Baylor.
