To start off the school year for incoming students, Baylor Welcome Week features events and activities to help students get connected and comfortable on campus. There is a special group of people that make this week possible.

“A Welcome Week leader is just somebody who shows the incoming students what Baylor is like. We talk about academics, we kind of take them on a spiritual journey too,” said Houston sophomore Hope Willenborg.

Incoming students are divided into small groups that consist of two Welcome Week Leaders, each of whom have been through an application process and training sessions.

“I feel like it’s really important to give back in the way that you were given to. I had a wonderful experience my first week, and I really feel like I found my family,” said Longview sophomore Kierra Batiste. “My welcome week leaders were awesome, and I definitely want to give that to the freshmen to make sure that they feel really welcome and really at home and to know that they have a family here now.”

With Festival at the Fountain, a spirit rally at the Ferrell Center, The Big Event, and many more unique festivities, incoming students had an exciting an eventful first week.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting my group, but I’m definitely looking forward to The Big Event. It’s a 90’s theme, and this is the last class of kids who were born in the 90’s. It’s a really big shindig, so I’m just waiting for them to have fun and be freshmen before school gets here,” Batiste said.
