As expected, this game has proved to be an offensive showdown, with Baylor leading Texas Tech 31-28 at halftime in Cowboys Stadium.
The Bears and Red Raiders have gone back and forth, with one team scoring a touchdown and the other offense answering right back. Baylor’s field goal on the opening drive has kept them in the lead. The two teams have combined for 89 plays and 520 yards.
Junior quarterback Robert Griffin III scored the game’s first touchdown with a 33-yard touchdown pass to Kendall Wright on fourth-and-6.
It was Wright’s 11th touchdown of the season, tying Baylor’s single-season record.
Senior running back Terrance Ganaway has been the main source of the Baylor offense so far, with 103 yards rushing on 17 carries and a touchdown. Ganaway eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark on the season, and his touchdown was his 13th rushing touchdown of the season, tying the Baylor single-season record.
Texas Tech used some trickery on their third touchdown, faking a receiver reverse before throwing a 43-yard touchdown pass. The receiver faking the reverse was actually backup quarterback Jacob Karam.
The Red Raiders recovered a surprise onside kick on the ensuing kickoff, but the Baylor defense held them to a three-and-out.
This game has also kept the referees busy, with 13 combined penalties for 135 yards. Texas Tech received 30 yards on one drive from back-to-back Baylor penalties before scoring a touchdown, and Baylor’s final scoring drive of the half saw several Texas Tech penalties. Griffin capped off the drive with a 3-yard rushing touchdown.
Griffin has 106 passing yards and a touchdown so far, along with 62 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Wright leads the receivers with three catches for 64 yards and a touchdown.
