A series of four armed robberies have occurred on the western edge of Baylor’s campus since Oct. 15, with the most recent occurring Sunday.

The incidents have occurred between Interstate 35 and Speight Street, on Eighth, Ninth, and Eleventh Streets.

According to Baylor police the suspect in three of the incidents is a black male, between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches, around 150 pounds and between 20 to 25 years old. Another suspect, involved in one of the incidents, is a black male similar in size.

Both men were wearing dark-colored hoodies at the time of the robberies.

One victim was struck in the face but not injured. No injures were reported in the other three robberies.

Baylor police are working with Waco police to solve these robberies and provide extra surveillance around Baylor’s campus. Baylor police advise students to be aware of their surroundings at all times and to contact Baylor Police if you are the victim of a robbery.

Campus Safely Alert from the Baylor Police Department

Baylor University is alerting the Baylor community of a series of armed robberies that have occurred recently in the vicinity of the university. Waco Police have provided information that indicates four armed robberies have taken place on the Western edge of the campus since Oct. 15. Each incident involves a handgun of an unknown type.

The incidents have occurred at the following locations: 1) 1300 block of S. 11th Street at 11:32 p.m. on Oct. 15; 2) 1100 block of S. 8th Street (near Common Grounds) at 11:20 p.m. on Oct. 24; 3) 1400 block of S. 11th Street at 11:03 p.m. on Oct. 27; and 4) at S. 9th and Speight Avenue at 2:53 a.m. on Oct. 30. In this latest incident no weapon was displayed.

The suspect in three of the incidents is a lone black male, 5’6” to 5’8” around 150 lbs. thin build between 20-25 years old wearing a dark colored hoodie, blue jeans and red t-shirt under the hoodie. One other suspect in the latest incident at Speight and 9th Street is a black male very similar in size to the other listed suspect. Both were wearing dark colored hoodies. In the first three incidents, there were no injuries, however in the Oct. 30 incident, the victim was struck in the face but no injury occurred.

Baylor Police advise all within the Baylor community to be alert to these events and to not walk or jog alone. When pulling into a parking lot, take a moment to survey the immediate area to ensure that no one is approaching you or lurking nearby. Should you be confronted by a robbery suspect, submit to the suspect’s request without being confrontational, and at the earliest possible moment, contact Baylor Police at (254) 710-2222 or Waco Police at 9-1-1. The Baylor Police Department is fully staffed 24/7, and officers are working in cooperation with Waco Police on this matter.
