State transportation officials are rolling out several changes to Interstate 35 construction zones in Central Texas in response to a string of major wrecks and deaths.

Lower speeds, rumble strips and more warning signs will mark work zones along I-35 in the Waco area and parts of Hill, Bell and Falls counties.

Some new 60-mph speed limit signs are up in Hill County, but most of the new safety features will go live in the spring, Texas Department of Transportation spokeswoman Jodi Wheatley said.

The Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce hosted an economic forum Thursday centered on real estate development and how infrastructural developments along Interstate 35-South, as well as the general performance of the economy, affects jobs and boosts the real estate market.

The Texas Department of Transportation hosted a final public hearing Thursday night on the construction of two new frontage road bridges over the Brazos River, which runs parallel to University Parks Drive in Waco. The bridges will span between University Parks Drive and Martin Luther King Boulevard on Interstate Highway 35.

The Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce is involved in a development effort to revitalize economic activity in Waco. The plans for economic development include a five-year plan and a 20- to 40-year redevelopment plan.
