What started out as an available job on campus working at the Texas Collection eventually turned into a passion and kickstarted the career of a 1984 Baylor alumnus. Alan Lefever is director of the Texas Baptist Historical Collection and has served there for 33 years as the director. Before that, he was a student employee for six years at Baylor, working for the Texas Collection a total of 39 years.

From teaching at Baylor and authoring almost 30 books to preaching at churches around the world, there are not many fields where Dr. Greg Garrett does not have his foot in the door.
Professor of preaching Dr. Jared E. Alcántara has been named director of the Kyle Lake Center for Effective Preaching, which prepares students at Truett Theological Seminary and offers continuing education for other pastors and ministers. In this role, Alcántara will help put to use a $1.25 million grant Baylor received to assist with the Compelling Preaching Initiative.
“What we’ve been able to do is cut back on some of the electives and some of the requirements that at some points seem to overlap,” Reed said. “We would cut that out and let the opposite degree fill in. Say in music, most electives that would be in the MDiv are going to be music courses.”
A Baylor research study recently found that seminaries do little to equip pastors to recognize psychological distress among their congregants and when to refer those members to a doctor.
Future preachers from Baylor Truett Seminary will have the chance to preach before an assembled pulpit in preparation to lead their future congregations.
