On the night of July 19, 2012, when Baylor’s regents approved construction for the $250 million Baylor Stadium, all the stars were aligned.

On May 11, 2012, Baylor approved a new strategic vision “Pro Futuris,” a vision that, in broad strokes, called for growth. The 2011-2012 sports season, what ESPN.com called “one of the greatest combined athletic seasons in NCAA history,” brought Baylor into the national spotlight.

The Washington D.C. Internship Program, which provides students the opportunity to work with congressmen and women, is setting the stage for Baylor’s new vision, Pro Futuris.

Every year, Baylor’s dept of political science offers the Washington, D.C. Internship program to 10-15 students. Students are selected to work with representatives and committees in Congress, departments in the executive branch and other associations.

The Old Main Lodge on Fourth Street will be demolished in February, creating a clear view from Interstate 35 of campus across a crisp green lawn.

The razing of the Old Main Lodge, a 38-year-old Best Western Hotel near the International House of Pancakes, is just one of many construction projects meant to help expand Baylor and make it aesthetically green.

On Tuesday, Baylor Athletics and Baylor University Director of Athletics Ian McCaw debuted a new strategic five-year plan that details goals for the entire department.

Primarily, the new strategic plan has five central focuses: student-athlete experience; athletic excellence; culture of integrity; resource development and stewardship; and branding and engagement.

Following a year of triumph, Baylor has progressed to a new height this year — overall enrollment.

Baylor’s current enrollment, 15,364 students, is the highest in Baylor’s history.

All things Baylor will pass.

To think otherwise would be foolishness, it has happened before and it will happen again.

For example, there used to be a very large pool where our very large practice field is now. Brooks College and Flats — the insular havens for “potterphiles” and married couples ­— is a completely new creation. It used to be a men’s dormitory called Brooks Hall. The face of Baylor has fundamentally changed over the years, and will continue to change in the future.

A new university vision promises to be the next stepping stone in Baylor’s path to the future.

Pro Futuris, meaning ‘for the future,’ is the name of Baylor’s newest strategic vision, created to guide the university’s path in the coming years, Adopted unanimously by the Baylor Board of Regents on May 11, this vision expands Baylor’s previous long-term plan, Baylor 2012, the university’s strategic vision for a decade-long series of improvements. It began on June 1, and Pro Futuris will be in effect for the next decade.
