Browsing: pre-health

Hosted by the Baylor chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta and the Office of Pre-Health Studies, the event provided a bridge between undergraduate aspirations and professional reality. The symposium featured representatives from over 40 professional schools, ranging from medical and dental programs to veterinary and physical therapy schools. Vivan Huynh, AED vice president of scholarly events, said her own experience as a pre-health student motivated the event.

There are prehealth workshops like this throughout the semester. The next two are on March 3 and March 17. According to the registration page, the March 3 workshop will provide trail mix to “savor the admissions experience,” and the March 17 workshop is called “How to Be a One in a Melon Applicant” and will provide sour watermelon candies to students who attend.

In the past, pre-health honor society Alpha Epsilon Delta has done a mission trip to the Dominican Republic, however, this year they are headed to South Africa instead. AED is an organization that strives to cultivate the students’ hearts for service, give them experience in the medical world and grow closer together as a group. This year AED is able to partner with the Medical Service Organization (MSO) for their trip.

“Minorities in Medicine is exactly what some students have been looking for in a student organization,” Klausmeyer said. “As Minorities in Medicine starts to gain momentum, we hope that underrepresented students can find a space to grow professionally and spiritually to achieve their goals, [because] one of the best ways to find inspiration is to see other people that look like you in positions of leadership.”
