No. 17 Baylor softball could not pull together one more win over No. 5 Oklahoma following a shutout on Thursday, and the team lost the final two matchups last weekend in Norman, Okla., for the 2-1 Oklahoma series win.

No. 17 Baylor softball played one of their most impressive games of the season Thursday night as it run-ruled No. 5 Oklahoma in six innings to take a big 8-0 shutout in Norman, Okla. It’s the first time the team has beaten a top five opponent on the road since topping Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz., in 2013.

The No. 3 Lady Bears have been unstoppable in the Big 12 this season. No team has found an answer to Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey’s dynamic roster, resulting in an 11-0 record in conference and 21 consecutive wins on the season. Baylor is cruising, sweeping teams in the conference and not stopping for anyone or anything standing in its way.

The Lady Bears’ high-powered offense was on display on Monday at the Ferrell Center. Baylor scored 96 points to win by seven, 96-89, against the Oklahoma Sooners.

While the season did not take the path many expected, it could end the way many predicted with Oklahoma State in the drivers seat for a Big 12 championship once again.

With a win over Oklahoma in the Bedlam rivalry game, the Cowboys can clinch the Big 12 title and a berth in the Fiesta Bowl for the second time in three seasons.

No. 5 Baylor (8-0) didn’t quite meet the all-time attendance record against No. 10 Oklahoma (7-2), but that was OK. The Bears still played in front of the most raucous crowd in the history of Floyd Casey Stadium on Thursday. In front of 50,337 screaming, blacked- out fans watching the biggest football game in Baylor history, the Bears made a statement with a 41-12 win over the Sooners.

“We showed tonight we can compete with any team in this conference and in the nation,” senior defensive end Chris McAllister said to a crowd of dozens of reporters after the 41-12 thrashing of Oklahoma.

I am a Sooner fan working at OU with the College of Liberal Studies. As I watched Thursday night’s game, I saw some impressive football and I hope that you will do the same thing to Texas but even worse. That being said, I thought you might enjoy a Sooner lament, with an ode to Edgar Allen Poe.
