“We stress that we want everyone to feel welcomed and feel they can come to us for anything,” Frazier said. “So just being able to show everyone that we are here on this campus, and we are here to make sure that everyone feels welcome in this space.”
Browsing: minorities
Scales stated that historically, women were on the front lines of social work, while the head social workers or supervisors at the top were men, but she believes that this has improved in recent generations.
Over 90 countries are represented in the Baylor student body. Some of these groups contains hundreds, some dozens and some with a sole student representing their nation.
“Minorities in Medicine is exactly what some students have been looking for in a student organization,” Klausmeyer said. “As Minorities in Medicine starts to gain momentum, we hope that underrepresented students can find a space to grow professionally and spiritually to achieve their goals, [because] one of the best ways to find inspiration is to see other people that look like you in positions of leadership.”
Students who have had a minority roommate are more likely to have positive perceptions of minority groups, according to data gathered from the U.S. Air Force Academy and analyzed by Dr. Jim West, professor of economics.
“Umm … I don’t think so,” I said hesitantly and ignorantly when my English professor asked me if I was a feminist during my freshman year of college. While feminism simply means equality of the sexes, and that means equality for all races of women, why do so many flee from being labeled feminist?
I have a lot of names. I have my given name, Paula Ann Solis, and then there are the less official but still important titles I go by: daughter, sister, friend, American, Mexican, and, my favorite, tía. Then there are the names I’ve been called to bring me down. I will not list them here because they’re not worth mentioning, but there’s one I think people don’t realize I never want to hear: minority.
