“We think that as a Christian research university, Baylor needs to have a presence in esports — particularly how large the community is — and it’s growing,” Cook said. “We’ve learned that parents have a lot of questions about it, so we believe we have a role in coming alongside them and exploring esports with them.”

The marketing team performed a test in which they watched commercials from other schools, but removed logos, colors or any other indication of the school’s identity, Cook said. They were hardly able to identify any of the colleges. This really caught their attention and motivated them to seek new ways to set Baylor apart from the rest, or “stand out in the sea of sameness.”

Last Saturday, Baylor’s acrobatics and tumbling team captivated a record-breaking crowd of 1,453 at the Ferrell Center. From the players to the coaches, there was a feeling of shock that Baylor’s A&T squad managed to draw a crowd of such a great size. There was an evident sense of extra spunk in the players’ performances and the fans cheered like it was a championship meet for Baylor.

Professionals from two marketing research firms, Decision Analyst and Research Now, discussed their understanding of marketing research as well as how to get a foot in the door for employment, with a group of Baylor students during the professional development program’s final First Wednesday event of the semester.
