OKLAHOMA CITY – In their opening game of the Big 12 championship tournament, the Lady Bears cruised past the Kansas Jayhawks 81-47. Baylor (27-4) faces Oklahoma State (23-7) at 2 p.m. Sunday in the semifinal. OSU beat Iowa State on Saturday 67-57.
In its first matchup, Kansas dominated Baylor in virtually all aspects of the game en route to a 3-1 victory. In their second matchup on Wednesday night, Kansas was even stronger.
The Jayhawks won in straight sets: 25-14, 25-13, 25-15.
With the loss, Baylor falls to 11-14 on the season, including 3-6 in the Big 12.
Baylor volleyball struggled early in Big 12 Conference play, but ended the first half of conference play with consecutive wins against Kansas State and Texas Tech. The Bears (11-13, 2-5) will look to turn a corner in a midweek road match against the powerhouse Kansas Jayhawks (16-5, 6-2). The Bears won their last two matches behind a switch at starting setter. Freshman Morgan Reed has stepped in and brought a new energy to the team.
Unlike Baylor’s narrow 35-25 victory against the Kansas State Wildcats on Oct. 12, on Saturday’s visit to the Sunflower State, the No. 6 Baylor Bears left no doubt with a convincing 59-14 win against the Kansas Jayhawks.
The Bears answered any concerns about their ability to perform on the road by delivering a display of overpowering offense and an authoritative defensive effort.
The Baylor Bears have been on a hot streak recently, riding a five-game winning streak and coming out as the victors in 14 of their last 19 contests.
The Bears look to continue the winning trend this weekend when they travel to Lawrence for a three-game series against the Kansas Jayhawks.
The Jayhawks are sitting in fifth place in the Big 12 with a 9-9 conference record and are 27-18 overall.

Freshman infielder Robin Landrith continued her on-base streak, drawing two walks and hitting a key double.
The No. 14 Baylor Lady Bears split its third consecutive double-header Saturday after defeating the Kansas Jayhawks 6-1 in the first game, but falling 6-5 in the second.
With the pressure on, Baylor continuously made plays in two-out situations. Of the 11 runs Baylor scored, 10 were scored when Baylor had two outs.
After splitting back-to-back double headers against nonconference opponents, the No. 14 Baylor Lady Bears will resume conference play with a series against the Kansas Jayhawks today through Sunday in Lawrence, Kan.
“Going into the Kansas house, I know that they are always ready to play us,” senior center fielder Kathy Shelton said. “They always hit the ball well, so hopefully we just have it all together as a team and we go in there and get a sweep.”
The Baylor Women’s tennis team came up short on Wednesday night against 4th-ranked Texas A&M at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center. The Lady Bears took an early lead after winning the doubles point, but were unable to keep the Aggies from taking control of the match in singles play and securing the 4-2 overall victory.
“We definitely competed harder in that particular match than we have lately, but ultimately we still fell short,” head coach Joey Scrivano said.
In a memorable Senior Night for Baylor basketball, the Bears upset the No. 4 Kansas Jayhawks 81-58 Saturday. The Bears shot 58% from the field.
The No. 1 Baylor Lady Bears will look to continue taking care of business as they face Kansas at 7 p.m. tonight at the Ferrell Center.
The Lady Bears (20-1, 10-0 Big 12) put their 32-game regular season win streak on the line as they take on the Jayhawks (14-6, 5-4 Big 12). Baylor will try to extend its home winning streak to 51 games, whereas Kansas is coming off two overtime victories over Iowa State and Kansas State.
The Baylor football team put together a complete effort and dominated Kansas in a 41-14 victory on Saturday. The win marked Baylor’s first Big 12 victory this season.
“Getting a ‘W’ finally was a big deal,” senior quarterback Nick Florence said. “I just think we needed to get the ball rolling. We need some more confidence, and this is a big confidence-booster. We know we are a good team and finally we showed it on the field. We played a complete game with no turnovers, the defense got turnovers, they didn’t give up any points in the second half. We won special teams. If we can win all three sides of the ball, we can win any game we play.”
