Sports media is dominated by ESPN. Its round-the-clock coverage on Sportscenter, paired with its engaging talk shows, such as “First Take” and “Pardon the Interruption,” constantly serves multitudes of sports fans around the world.

Though ESPN has always been my go-to channel when turning on the TV, lately it’s been disappointing.

In the first meeting of the two teams since the 2009 NIT semifinals, No. 11 Baylor (3-0) used a second-half push to surge past the San Diego State Aztecs (3-1) by a score of 77-67 Tuesday at the Ferrell Center.

Over two weeks after Baylor’s epic 50-48 victory over TCU, the Bears finally return to the football field to face Stephen F. Austin at 6 p.m. Saturday in Floyd Casey Stadium.

President Ken Starr called it “epic.” Coach Art Briles said it was “classic,” and junior Mike Hicks, whose interception sealed Baylor’s 50-48 win over TCU Friday night, couldn’t find the words to describe it.

Award-winning New York Times sports and business reporter Richard Sandomir was on campus Wednesday to discuss his experiences as a journalist, answer questions about the news industry and provide advice to students looking for careers in journalism.

When Baylor and Texas tip off at 8 p.m. Saturday, head coach Scott Drew will watch from the bench knowing the importance of the game on several levels. “I don’t know if there’s ever been a bigger regular season college game in Baylor’s school history,” Drew said. “[ESPN’s] College GameDay is as big as it gets. It’s obviously a much-needed game for us win-wise.”

ESPN College GameDay is coming to Baylor. The show will include two hours of live coverage starting at 9 a.m. on ESPNU and continuing from 10 to 11 a.m. on ESPN. The Ferrell Center will open at 7 a.m.

The Society of Professional Journalists will host local radio announcer Jessica Goodlett at 6 p.m. today in 245 Castellaw. Goodlett graduated from Baylor in 2010 and currently hosts the afternoon show on 92.9 FM Waco. She also provides sports updates for 1660 ESPN Radio Waco and has interned with ESPN in New York City. The event is open to the entire campus and free pizza will be provided.
