“This subject is extremely relevant to students and the need to always be aware of your surroundings, whether you are in the dorms, on campus or traveling,” Childers said. “A student’s best defense in staying safe is maintaining a heightened sense of awareness.”

Without wheels, suddenly we’re stranded. We’re met with the inability to do things, like visit the store and go out to eat, without taking an Uber, ordering delivery or getting a ride from a friend.

Instead of seeing this story fade out of the Baylor community’s minds over the next couple of days, we need to understand that this tragedy is also a time for us to remember that this could affect anyone.

Endless mobs of people cross in front of my car as I wait to turn. It hasn’t been that long, I know it hasn’t, but it feels like years in car time. When you’re on Baylor’s campus, you no longer follow the rules of the road. You follow the rules of the walkers. And bikers. Just anyone who isn’t driving.
