During a State of the City address, Waco Mayor Dillon Meek confirmed he does not plan to seek reelection after his term expiration in May 2024. Meek, who is also a Baylor alum, said he is most proud of “being part of the team that kept Waco’s civic landscape and culture consensus-driven, civil and kind.”

With no clouds in the sky, Wacoans and nearby Texans happily waltzed to the event as the festivities began. Some of the attendees knew to show up early to grab a good spot, including a group of retirees.
Students across Baylor’s campus were able to join the ceremony to watch history unfold. Some walking between classes stopped to watch the event and see the unveiling of the statues first-hand.
