The mysterious world of health care often goes unnoticed by students, mostly because it’s a hard issue to digest. However, young people hold the power to influence American policies, and it’s important for students to know all of the facts, problems and potential solutions before they enter the real world after their time at Baylor.
“Autism affects individuals differently. What this rising statistic does illustrate is the pressing needs of this population regarding research, assessment and individualized interventions,” Dr. Kristen Padilla, director of Baylor’s center for developmental disabilities, said.
Medical Director of Baylor Health Services Dr. Sharon Stern said the fungus is not something that would cause disease in healthy college students, and it is only seen in nursing home patients and in very sick hospitalized patients.
“Knowing your own body and understanding what you can do to help prevent the allergic reaction [are important], and know how you can treat it when it’s there,” Stern said.
