It was a pitching duel as the No. 16 Baylor Lady Bears defeated the Oklahoma State Cowgirls 2-0 on Friday. The Lady Bears needed a win to get their conference record over .500.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Heather Stearns was on the mound and almost pitched a perfect game. Stearns only allowed one hit, which came at the top of the sixth inning. She struck out 11 batters on the day.

In a classic pitching duel filled with late heroics, the Baylor Bears defeated the No. 8 Oklahoma Sooners 2-1 on Friday night. With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Baylor’s first batter up at the plate, senior third baseman Cal Towey, hit a fastball deep to right field and the ball cleared the fence for an instant walk-off 2-1 win for the Bears.

The No. 16 Baylor Lady Bears will continue conference play with a three-game series against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls. The first game will be at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Getterman Stadium.

The No. 15 Baylor men’s tennis team will continue conference play against the No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners at 6 p.m. today at the Hurd Tennis Center. The Bears (15-4) are 1-0 in conference play this season and are coming off of a 6-1 win at Texas Tech last week and a five-match win streak.

Softball season is more than halfway over and the No. 16 Baylor Lady Bears have three more series left against Big 12 teams.

The Lady Bears (30-10, 3-5 Big 12) are currently fifth in the Big 12, so there is a lot of work to be done if they want to compete in the postseason.

The Baylor Bears baseball team experienced unprecedented success last season by posting a 49-17 record. Even though it is still early in the season, this year’s Baylor team has a 17-16 record on the diamond and is already one loss away from equaling last season’s total.
