Following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University Wednesday afternoon, Baylor graduate student AJ Barber posted comments on Instagram that many found distasteful and insensitive.
As we reflect on the impact social media has had on our 2025 minds, it is much less positive. Social media has produced an anxiety-ridden, disconnected and apathetic generation. Our minds are filled with constant noise and comparison. Every major and minor tragedy is broadcast to us in grotesque detail.
Come Friday afternoon, Barfield Drawing Room will be teeming with parents, tickets will be sold out for Baylor football’s non-conference clash with Samford and families clad in green and gold will flood 5th Street. For many, the promise of Family Weekend brings eager anticipation.
As stated in The Oxford Blue, “Music from the past is music with history, music that creates more than a desire to dance, it creates specific feelings of a particular moment in time, even if we weren’t necessarily alive at the time.”

For those at the Waco Police Department, the wait is finally over. After six weeks of treatment at the University of California-Davis, K-9 officer Torro, a Belgian Malinois dog, is coming home.
There won’t be classrooms or homework, but for seven Baylor students, education won’t end during spring break. Members of International Justice Mission, along with other students, will travel to Houston to learn how to combat human trafficking. Participants will work with legal experts and community agencies to learn more about this growing social injustice.
J.H. Hines Elementary School students walked hand-in-hand with their volunteers through the Mayborn Museum Complex, sprawled on the floor as they drew pictures of artifacts and got a chance to apply their reading and writing skills in a new way last week.

Texas voters turned out in historic numbers Tuesday, delivering victories for State Rep. James Talarico and forcing a runoff between Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the state’s U.S. Senate contest that claimed national attention. The total early-voting turnout of more than 2.5 million marks the highest ever for a midterm primary election. The results also kicked off the 2026 midterm cycle.
