Baylor basketball begins its season on a high note when they take on the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks at 8:30 p.m. today at the Ferrell Center.

Baylor seemed to have it. The game was a little close for comfort throughout, but Baylor held a two-point lead with its best free-throw shooter at the line. Senior guard Kenny Chery stepped up for a one-and-one opportunity, 15 seconds remaining, his Baylor career on the line. As he had done 186 times before in his Baylor career, he went through his motions and shot a free throw. It ricocheted off the back iron.

Baylor baseball fell 4-3 to Sam Houston State Wednesday night at Baylor Ballpark just after beating the Bearkats by the same score in extra innings on Tuesday. Baylor (7-13, 0-3) recently ended its 10-game losing streak only to win one game before returning to the losing column.

With two scholarships in hand, Drew decided to reward the two walk-ons. In front of the team, Drew gave a short speech about how hard both players had worked and how essential both are to the program.

“What we’d like to do is to give them thanks for what they’ve done and offer them a scholarship for this semester,” Drew said to the cheers of their teammates.

After the final buzzer sounds at the Ferrell Center tonight, No. 14 Baylor men’s basketball seniors Kenny Chery and Royce O’Neale will walk off the court for the final time. The Bears’ final Big 12 matchup against Texas Tech at the Ferrell Center marks the final time fans will see both senior players sporting their Baylor jerseys.

Things get heated every time Baylor and Texas face off in a Big 12 contest, but Monday night’s contest took it to a different level.

After seven players were ejected from the game, the No. 14 Bears couldn’t overcome poor shooting and weak offensive play in the second half to fall 61-59 to the Longhorns at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin.

No. 19 Baylor men’s basketball is getting closer to ending its run in Big 12 play, and each game counts heading into the conference tournament in a few weeks. After losing a close game in Manhattan, Kan., on Jan. 17, the Bears got revenge and took a critical 69-42 win over Kansas State on Saturday afternoon at the Ferrell Center.
