After opening the stadium with an overwhelming turnout from the Baylor Nation on Sunday, the Bears are riding a massive wave of support and anticipation for what is to come this season.

With the success of head coach Art Briles and No. 10 Baylor over the past few years, ticket sales have increased dramatically, because of both fans and students. Over 8,500 students claimed their tickets to Aug. 31’s football game against SMU in less than one hour last Sunday. Many students experienced server issues, and in turn, were unable to reserve seats for the first game in McLane Stadium.

Baylor football was hardly even on the radar at the beginning of last season. The preseason Associated Press poll in 2013 had Baylor on the outside looking in, and the preseason Big 12 poll picked the Bears to finish fifth, behind Texas, TCU and both Oklahoma teams.
Almost from the moment he arrived on campus in February of 2008, head coach Art Briles told the administration that he wanted a stadium. Baylor had not qualified for a bowl game since 1994 and finished winless in the Big 12 in 2007, but Briles thought a stadium would be necessary to take the next step toward becoming an elite football program.

College football fans are divided on a proposed rule amendment by the NCAA Football Rules Committee that could slow down the no-huddle offense.
The proposed rule change, spearheaded by Alabama coach Nick Saban and Arkansas coach Bret Bielema, would make it a penalty to snap the ball until 29 seconds remain on the 40-second play clock. If the ball is snapped before 29 seconds, a delay-of-game penalty will be assessed. This rule was proposed under the theory that lessening the number of plays in a game could lessen the injury risk of the game.
