Sing 2011 was filled with awesome sets, great themes and much improvement. We’ve made some observations on each of the acts. They aren’t meant to be rude — they’re meant to highlight the good and point out the areas that need improvement. Thanks to all the performers for their hard work. Shawn McDonald is back on the Christian music radar with his new album “Closer.” The album releases March 11 on EMI’s Sparrow Records. Though the songs are very personal for McDonald (he wrote or contributed to all of them), he shares songwriting credits with other award-winning writers such as Brandon Heath, Joy Williams, Ben Glover and Josh Garrels.
Donavon Frankenreiter’s new release, “Glow,” is a record filled with Bob Marley and Jack Johnson inspired “feel good” and “it’s gonna be alright” (the latter of which is actually a chorus) songs that are sung in the style of surfer music with an odd mix of plucky guitar strumming and ambient yet poppy leads in the styles of U2 and Coldplay.
An unusual but creative concept for a recent music video is now the backdrop of yet another triumph for the David Crowder Band.
