Baylor men’s basketball extended the nation’s second longest win streak to eight games, and the Bears moved to 3-0 on the season with a 87-68 win over Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday at the Ferrell Center.

Baylor got off to a slow start in the first half, missing four straight shots to start the game. ULL jumped out to a 9-3 lead over Baylor with 14:50 left in the first half. The Bears would then go on a 13-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 16-11 lead after a three-pointer by junior point guard Kenny Chery. After cutting the lead to 16-15, ULL would never get within more than three points.

In front of a crowd of 69,188 raucous fans, Baylor football showed the nation that you never really have an advantage against the Bear’s high-powered offense. Despite Texas Tech scoring the first 14 points of the game, Baylor’s high-powered offense would score 60 or more points for the sixth time this season, and No. 5 Baylor (9-0, 6-0) cruised to 63-34 victory over Texas Tech (7-4, 4-4) in Arlington.

Redshirt freshman running back Shock Linwood led Baylor with 187 rushing yards on 29 carries and a touchdown in his first collegiate start at running back. Fellow redshirt freshman running back Devin Chafin added 100 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries in his first major action.

The Royce-Darden Collection of black gospel music is set to be a part of the Smithsonian National Museum of African-American History and Culture.

The museum, under construction on the National Mall in Washington, is scheduled to open in 2015.

Pi Kappa Phi has returned to campus in full with no sanctions upon the conclusion of an investigation into activities concerning pledges.

“The interim suspension was lifted on October 28,” said Georgetown junior Matthew Corrigan, president of Pi Kappa Phi. “They notified our president at the time via phone call, and we got an email from our director of accountability and education from nationals.”

In the second game of the season, the No. 9 ranked Lady Bears dominated unranked Nicholls State University with a 111-58 win on Thursday at the Ferrell Center. The Lady Bears have scored more than 110 points in every game thus far, averaging 110.5 per game.

“You just have to give Baylor the credit in terms of their personnel, the depth they have, the ability to, in a good way, they can just wear you down,” Nicholls State head coach DoBee Plaisance said. “They’re outstanding. They’re not number nine in the country for nothing.”

Baylor Theatre’s constantly moving department has been rehearsing for the next show for the semester. The play, “Shipwrecked! An Entertainment: The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (as told by himself),” was cast in the closing days of the production of “Legally Blonde.”

Salem, N.H., graduate student John Michael Sefel, the play’s director, said the audition process for this particular play was unique.

“Many shows ask for a certain look from the actors,” Sefel said. “This one is about the performers.”

After a day of training on a high ropes course just off campus Thursday, Baylor Army ROTC cadets will once again be out of their typical environment this weekend as they attend field training exercises at Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells.

Hundreds of chemists from across the country are coming to Waco this weekend to attend the 67th Southwest regional meeting of the American Chemical Society.

Baylor’s department of chemistry and biochemistry will help host the conference, which will be in town from Saturday to Tuesday at the Waco Convention Center.

Coming off of a three-match losing streak, Baylor turned things around in a home tilt versus Texas Tech. The Bears (12-16, 4-8) defeated Texas Tech (9-19, 2-10) in straight sets on Wednesday in Waco. The Bears won sets 25-21, 25-19, 25-22.

Baylor trailed 7-10 in the first set but came back to tie the set at 12-12 behind an ace from freshman outside hitter Sam Hill and two kills from senior middle hitter Adrien Richburg. The Bears took a four-point lead but struggled to put the Red Raiders away. Tech cut the lead to 20-19, but Baylor managed to win the set 25-21. The Bears hit .414 in the set while holding Tech to .038.
