Video by Meredith Aldis | Broadcast Reporter, Story by Molly Atchison | Print Managing Editor Variations of yoga have become incredibly popular in recent years, and one exceptionally unconventional variation has taken center stage: goat yoga. From 9 to 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, students showed up at the SUB bowl to work on their zen and play with goats as part of Baylor’s 2018 Diadeloso festivities. In 2017, goat yoga sold out nearly 400 spots before Dia began, and this attraction isn’t just popular among college students, it’s practiced in cities all over the country. Goat yoga, a generic yoga class…

Meredith Aldis | Broadcast Reporter If you need a ride back to your car or dorm, the Baylor University Police Department is available 24/7 to pick you up. The escort service covers the 1,000-acre campus and an extra patrol response area that reaches all the way to 17th Street between I-35 and La Salle Ave. “It’s a great way for the police officers or security officers who are doing these escorts to make contact with the community and get to know each other,” said Brad Wigtil, Baylor Chief of Police. Wigtil said the average response time for the service is…

Meredith Aldis | Broadcast ReporterI do not believe that college football players should be paid. Access to a college degree has a direct impact on a person’s quality of life. A 2013 study by The College Board shows that the median lifetime earnings of bachelor’s degree recipients are 65 percent higher than those of high school graduates, and NCAA research shows 15 percent of Division I student athletes are first-generation college students.I consider the athletic scholarship that football players receive to be their compensation in return for representing their school. They made the decision to sign up to be an…

By Meredith Aldis | Broadcast Reporter A Baylor student’s Instagram post has gone viral after she posted a video of a Baylor professor wearing a suit with tennis shoes. She added a jingle to it and what happened next was something she didn’t expect. “A bunch of people responded and they were like ‘This is such a jam’ and I was like, ‘okay,’” said McKinney junior Carli Rude. The story kept going and started building with instruments and more and more people. She combined all of the submissions into a full video and posted it on her Facebook. That video…

By Meredith Aldis | Broadcast Reporter Being at Baylor allows something special for students: To have worship services on campus. On Wednesday, Ash Wednesday services were led by campus ministers. Various Waco residents and students gathered at Elliston Chapel for a bilingual Ash Wednesday service. They came together for a time of prayer, songs and reflection to mark the beginning of the Lenten season. University Chaplain Dr. Burt Burleson and Carlos Colón, Assistant Director for Worship Chapel, imposed ashes at the service along with other campus ministers.

Meredith Aldis | Broadcast ReporterBaylor junior and Pi Beta Phi sorority member, Elizabeth Bolger found a cause that brought members from every sorority together. Jesus, she said, is the reason sororities are coming together.Bolger said it started when she formed a thread of text messages for girls who are seeking breakthroughs and running after Jesus.”It literally grew overnight, like I’m not kidding,” Bolger said, “It was at like 30 and then the next day, I looked at it, it was like at 120 and then the next day, it was at 160. And I was like, ‘What? What the heck?’…

By Meredith Aldis | Broadcast ReporterHow, for 30 years, could one of the most popular sports programs in America have a pedophile preying on its athletes? This is a question many people are wondering, and they want answers. It is time for change in the world of gymnastics. The first step toward change is to hold these enablers of abuse accountable. While Dr. Larry Nassar was the one on trial for what happened, I believe Michigan State University, USA Gymnastics and the Karolyis should be held just as accountable. Adults who suspect a predator is on the prowl and do nothing are…

I was just very confident in what I did,” Cowan said. “I knew that I was very athletic and fast and very strong from all the years of gymnastics and all the years in acro, so I kind of came into MMA with that same…

Meredith Aldis | Broadcast Reporter Two Baylor music faculty members, Dr. Eka Gogichashvili and Kae Hosoda-Ayer, presented a recital with guest violinist Mia Orosco, who was Gogichashvili’s former student. But Gogichashvili was more than a teacher for Orosco. “It has been a special relationship. I’ve known her since she was very little since she’s from Waco,” said Gogichashvili, associate professor of violin at Baylor’s School of Music. “That’s part of what we do at Baylor, we go through the four years mentoring the students from day one until they graduate.” After having a student/teacher relationship, the two collaborated to perform…
