As March nears its end, I find it timely to get something off my chest that has been bugging me all month. And that is the issue of Women’s History Month. I’m pretty sure we have all heard the phrase, “Well, why isn’t there a men’s history month?” Similarly, in February we hear, “Why isn’t there a white history month?” The answer is simple, and it’s right in every standard history book. To put it bluntly, every month could qualify in the above two ‘missing’ categories. That is an unoriginal argument, but let me expand upon it. This is not…

Should one vote just to proudly wear an “I voted” sticker and say they participated in the event? I feel like many times this is why people do it. From conversation with my friends and family, I hear way too many times that they voted for whom someone had told them to vote for. Not only are people becoming lazy, but also it is hurting the U.S. It is not right to vote for someone who could get elected to run the country merely because someone influenced you to vote for him or her. You should do research and see…
Yawning is one of the most annoying bodily functions, following sneezing and hiccuping. A numerous number of studies have been done to figure out why we yawn. I looked at a lot of them before writing this and ended up yawning my head off the whole time. You are probably doing the same right now just from reading this, and that’s not to say my writing is dull. From a variety of articles, I took away that my propensity to “catch” other people’s yawns could mean that I’m an empathetic person and probably not a psychopath. The jury is still…
If it’s a Thursday afternoon at Baylor University, you can know where to find me. I will be located at 1845 Memorial dining hall, chomping on some good ‘ol southwest chicken salad. On behalf of all Baylor students and alumni, I would like to personally thank Baylor University dining services for the phenomenon that is THE southwest chicken salad. If you have not yet experienced this national treasure, just know that the line will be wrapped around the dining hall in such a way that you will need an all-access VIP fast pass to get in the door. From the…
Being a native of Los Angeles where new fads centered around not only fashion, but also fitness and nutrition, typically begin, I’m still learning to adjust to life at Baylor, let alone here in Waco. Here things run at a much slower pace. Don’t get me wrong, Waco has plenty of unique characteristics that make living here an incredible experience, but it’s lack of healthier dining options and even grocery stores makes any health freak, like myself, wish they were closer to the big cities. Although Waco has made an effort to incorporate elements of nutrition with temporary vendors like…
I gave up on New Year’s resolutions a long time ago. Now I sit on the couch eating fried food and chuckling at all the Facebook statuses and Instagram pictures involving clean eating and going to the gym. By February, the McLane Student Life Center will go back to its usual crowd and the produce section in HEB will look like a morgue compared to the ice cream aisle. I shouldn’t judge. Those people put in good work while I sat around. At least they had ambition, even if it died out. Those who made resolutions were at least brave…
The sexual assault case involving former Baylor football player Sam Ukwuachu ended in a settlement agreement between the university and the victim, according to the Associated Press. “The matter has been satisfactorily resolved,” John Clune, an attorney for the victim, told the Dallas Morning News. When asked for a statement on the matter, Assistant Vice President for Media Communications Lori Fogleman said, “We are unable to comment on legal matters.”Ukwuachu was convicted of sexual assault in Waco’s 54th State District Court on Aug. 20. The trial made national news. Mass speculation of and suspicion of Baylor and the football program followed.…
