    Football becomes bowl eligible with win over BYU

    Senior running back Abram Smith and junior linebacker Dillon Doyle shined as Baylor (6-1, 3-1) defeated No. 19 Brigham Young University (5-2) 38-24 Saturday at McLane Stadium for their second win over a ranked team this season. Smith had a career day, finishing the game with 27 carries for 188 yards and three scores. Doyle made history, becoming just the sixth player since 2004 to record two touchdowns and a sack in the same game, scoring both a rushing and receiving touchdown. The Bears will have a bye week before The University of Texas (4-3, 2-2) comes to Waco at 11 a.m on Oct. 30.

    Baylor (11-4, 5-1) defeated the University of Kansas (11-8, 3-5) in four sets in back-to-back matches Thursday and Friday in the Ferrell Center to take the season series. Senior outside hitter Yossiana Pressley came up big getting a total of 49 kills between the two matches, while senior outside hitter Avery Skinner recorded her 1,000th career kill. The Bears are now 5-1 at home and will travel to Morgantown, W.Va., to play West Virginia University on Oct. 22-23 in the WVU Coliseum.

    Baylor soccer (7-3-5, 3-1-2) tied The University of Texas (8-3-4, 4-0-2) in a defensive showdown Friday night at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field. Despite going into double overtime neither team was able to find the back of the net, as the game ended 0-0. Up next, the Bears remain at home for a game against Iowa State University (4-8-0, 1-3-0). The game is set to kickoff at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.

    No. 8 equestrian knocks off No. 5 Texas A&M

    Baylor equestrian (2-1) defeated No. 5 Texas A&M University (1-1) 12-7 Friday afternoon at the Willis Family Equestrian Center. The Bears swept all four of the meet’s individual events for the sixth time in the last three seasons to snap a five-meet losing streak to Texas A&M. Next up Baylor will face No. 6 Texas Christian University (2-2) at 10 a.m. on Nov. 5 at Diamond Creek Ranch in Burleson.

    Cross country gains confidence at last meet before conference championship

    Each of the top five runners on both the men’s and women’s teams ran personal bests at the Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station on Saturday. Senior Ryan Hodge finished 13th in the men’s 8K with a time of 23:57.0 to lead the Bears to a 15th-place finish. Sophomore Lily Jacobs led the way for Baylor in the women’s 6K, placing 26th with a time of 21:20.4 as the team finished 12th in the invitational. The Bears’ next race will be the Big 12 Championships on Oct. 29 at the Greiner Family Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla.

    Baylor tennis shines in ITA Regionals

    No. 7 Baylor men’s tennis senior Sven Lah advanced to the finals after upsetting TCU’s No. 3 seed in the singles semifinals at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Texas Regionals in College Station. Lah will face TCU’s graduate student Juan Carlos Aguilar, who is ranked No. 16 in the tournament, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday for the singles title.

    On the women’s side, the senior duo of Alicia Herrero Linana and Mel Krywoj secured their ticket to the ITA Fall Nationals after claiming the doubles championship at the ITA Regionals in Fort Worth, beating the top-seeded tandem of Texas A&M’s senior Jayci Goldsmith and graduate student Tatiana Makarova. Herrero Linana also advanced to the singles finals, but fell to UT sophomore Kylie Collins.
