Austin never fails to be a city of entertainment, whimsy and identity. During Austin City Limits especially, the outlandish electricity that circulates throughout the city’s dwellers seems to be elevated.

This year marked my fourth ACL festival and as always, the electric-ness did not disappoint. Here are the top five weirdest things I witnessed at ACL.

    Fully enclosed banana costume

As the unforgiving Texas heat engulfed festival-goers, staying cool was at the forefront of our mind during the festival. However, for the person dressed in a fully enclosed banana costume that we witnessed at the Levity set — smoldering temperatures were apparently not a problem for them.

At first, I thought the costume involved some sort of airflow or breathing capabilities. But before I could fully process the produce poncho dancing around in front of me, I realized that this person was fully enclosed in this costume. The front had a clear screen for viewing capabilities, but otherwise this outfit was the bottom on my list for comfortability.

    James Talarico

James Talarico was spotted multiple days at ACL both interacting with other attendees and watching sets.

    An “I Love Bacon” flag

I mean, yeah, me too. Bacon is sick. However, practically speaking, I’m not sure I would want to carry a flagpole around the festival grounds stating my passion for pork.

With that said, it’s embarrassing to be embarrassed, so to the man carrying around the giant “I Love Bacon” flag — carpe diem, c’est la vie and keep doing you.

    Jeffrey Epstein flag

Before I could read the words on a blurry, wind-blown sign in front of me. I noticed an alarming sight on display — Jeffrey Epstein’s face. I squinted my eyes and was finally able to make out the words that read, “This flag didn’t hang itself.”

    Matthew McConaughey

The Austin King himself showed up and showed out for the last day of the festival. Matthew McConaughey and his wife were spotted watching multiple bands during the evening including Twenty One Pilots and Geese.
