Student life center expands amenities with outdoor fitness court

The Baylor Student Life Center has expanded its fitness amenities by installing an outdoor exercise court between the Student Life Center and Russell Gym.

Lifetime fitness professor Beth Williams is excited about this initiative.

“I think there is a great opportunity to make fitness even more accessible to people,” Williams said. “You can go inside to use the state-of-the-art machines or stay outside to do this total body workout. I think Baylor is constantly trying to improve what they offer to their students, and we see that at the SLC.”

SLC fitness supervisor Brady Kluck shared how he feels about this addition.

“It is just a great place to surround yourself with people that make you feel worth what you want to be worth,” Cluck said.

All SLC employees and professors were trained by instructors from the National Fitness Campaign to ensure quality supervision and assistance. Apart from encouraging students to pursue a more active lifestyle, Baylor Health and Wellness is hoping this outdoor exercise area will also integrate community into exercise.

Professor Beth Williams is especially passionate about the mental and physical health of college students.

“I know that college students are under a lot of stress,” Williams said. “It is about finding what you like and doing it with at least one other person.”

The outdoor exercise area opened during finals week in May, but it officially re-launched in celebration of the new semester.

“Not many people knew it was here because of finals. Now that it is a new semester and fresh start, it would be a prime time to use this facility,” Kluck said.
