The Lady Bears extended its win streak to 12 after going two for two on the road, and cruising through Lubbock with a win against Texas Tech, 66-36.

”Going into the fourth quarter with a 20-something point lead, I thought you saw a different basketball team than you saw at a TCU the other night,” said head coach Kim Mulkey. ”We took care of the basketball, we made free throws, we defended with effort and we helped each other.’

The Lady Bears (25-1, 12-1) are now 28-8 against the Lady Raiders under Mulkey and with the win the Lady Bears have had 13 straight 25-win seasons.

The Red Raiders (11-13, 2-11) whose two conferences wins came out home looked to capitalize but fell short when the Bears took full control in the fourth quarter to seal the deal.

”We couldn’t hang with them because we were not scoring the basketball,” said Texas Tech head coach Candi Whitaker. ”I thought we took good shots for the most part, but it seemed like they were all rimming out for a period there. We couldn’t get one to go down.’You have to stay in the scoring mode if you are going to upset Baylor and give yourself a chance.”

With the Lady Bears missing open shots, the Lady Raiders battled to keep things close to end the first quarter only down five.

Going into the second the Bears looked to extend their lead, but both teams struggled to score.

The Lady Bears scored eight points in 10 minutes of play while shooting 23.1 field goal percentage.

The Lady Raiders were not far behind, only scoring six points in the second quarter and recording a 15.8 field goal percentage.

Coming back from the half the Bears regrouped and got back to their form.

However, the Lady Raiders kept the Lady Bears on the edge when they cut the lead to five with just seven minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Keeping their composer, the Lady Bears responded by going on a 12-1 run to gain all the momentum going into the fourth.

With the momentum and dominant presence in the paint, the Lady Bears took the win, 66-36.

Junior guard Nina Davis led the Lady Bears with 21 points and 12 rebounds, giving her a third double-double of the season.

”Defense is going to win championships and it’s what wins games,” Davis said. ”That’s something that we take pride in.”

The Lady Bears take on Oklahoma State 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Ferrell Center.
