Fort Worth sophomore Christopher “CJ” Werner was found dead in his apartment on Tuesday.

“On Tuesday a welfare check was conducted at his apartment and he was found deceased,” said Lori Fogleman, Baylor’s assistant vice president for media communications.

Werner recently returned to Baylor after attending from Fall 2010 to 2012. A Waco justice of the peace has ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of his death.

“We are deeply saddened at the loss of CJ Werner, who had just returned to Baylor to resume his studies,” said president and chancellor Ken Starr. “The hearts of all of us in the Baylor family break for CJ’s family and friends, and we pray that God will surround them with grace and comfort and keep them close in the difficult days ahead.”

A memorial service to recognize Werner is pending.
