The 62-year-long tradition of All-University Sing came to a close Saturday night, and the winners were announced following the nearly four hour show. First place was awarded to Phi Kappa Chi, second place went to Kappa Omega Tau and third place was given to Pi Beta Phi.

Cheryl Mathis, assistant director of campus programs, announced the top eight Sing acts. Chi Omega, Kappa Omega Tau, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Phi Kappa Chi, Kappa Sigma, Delta Delta Delta, Alpha Tau Omega and Pi Beta Phi, will advance to the Pigskin Revue in the fall.

Audience members had the opportunity to vote in the People’s Choice Awards for their favorite acts in specific categories via text voting after the show concluded. Phi Kappa Chi won best vocals and best backdrop; Pi Beta Phi won best song selection and best costumes; and Delta Delta Delta won best choreography and best theme development.

“You’ll have 30 minutes following the show to vote for your favorite acts,” Blair Browning, the show’s host, said during an intermission.

Browning, associate professor of communication studies, explained the criteria the judges used to evaluate each performance. Acts had the potential to earn a total of 100 points in five different categories: 30 points for entertainment value; 20 points for music quality; 15 points for creativity; 20 points for choreography; and 15 points for theme development.

Mathis said there were more than 1800 performers across the 18 groups that participated in Sing this year.

“Something that’s always fascinating every year is how many performers we have,” Mathis said before announcing the top eight acts.
