Mountaineers, Horned Frogs to open BU’s conference play

Baylor and the Big 12 Conference today announced the Bears’ 2012 football schedule, featuring six home games and one neutral-site game against Texas Tech.

Baylor’s nonconference schedule opens with consecutive home games against former Southwestern Conference rival SMU and Sam Houston State. The Bears then travel to Monroe, La., for their first away nonconference game in two years at Louisiana-Monroe.

The team then begins conference play against incoming Big 12 members, first at West Virginia, who today announced that it had cleared legal hurdles to leave the Big East, before returning to host TCU, who narrowly lost last year’s 50-48 season-opening win by the Bears. Baylor then takes the road for the next two games, traveling to the Longhorns, then the Cyclones.

The Bears return for Homecoming 2012 on Nov. 3 to host Kansas, then travel north to confront the Sooners before returning to Floyd Casey Stadium to host the Sunflower State’s other Big 12 member, Kansas State.

The Bears close out the regular season with a Thanksgiving-weekend shootout against the Red Raiders at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, followed by a homestand against Oklahoma State, who finished the 2011 season ranked No. 3 nationally by the Associated Press.
