Being a trailblazer comes with a legacy and a burden. For 47 years, the Nu Iota chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Incorporated has paved the way for others while standing strong in their principles of sisterhood and service.

For many people, tattoos are more than just permanent ink on skin — they’re visual manifestations of memory, identity and growth. Whether inspired by grief, faith, heritage or spontaneity, Baylor students, alumni and staff share the stories behind their body art and the meanings beneath the surface.
“My goal was to help modern Christian women who were taught that their divine role was to follow the leadership of men,” Barr said. “My goal was to help women understand where that idea came from and to also understand that idea is rooted in history, not actually in scripture. My thesis for [the book] is just real easy: It’s that biblical womanhood isn’t biblical, and that it’s actually something that’s been created in culture.”
