Every summer, the School of Education hosts a Math Teacher Academy, in which math teachers from all over the state can come and learn about techniques that will best help their students succeed. This year, it will be June 23-25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

School vouchers, also known as school choice, have been a controversial subject in Texas education for the past four years. The program uses Texas’ state funds to help parents pay for their children’s homeschooling or private school education. Many educators on both sides of the political aisle have spoken against the program. Other politicians argue that it gives Texas children the opportunity to learn in the best quality environment.
The issue some lawmakers and teachers have with Project 2025 regarding the DOE is the funding the DOE provides to thousands of local schools and programs through its $80 billion budget. From supporting public school programs, students with disabilities, and providing student loans for college, these people may be vulnerable if a ban passes.
“Pay incentives can lead to jealousy among faculty members,” Cox said, observing that the system could unintentionally favor teachers with smaller or more advanced classes, sparking concerns about fairness.
We don’t live in a time when teachers retire at 90 years old anymore. The citizens of Texas — or whatever state you’re from — can make a difference in these numbers by signing petitions and voting for candidates who will stand up for education.
“We tied everything together… by talking about how we really need to focus on our strengths, how we can take the things that bring us the most joy and… let that flow into our classrooms and what we do in the classrooms,” Clark-Goff said.
There are ways to pay teachers more, even if it means spending less in other areas. It should be everyone’s priority to ensure students are in good hands.
The state Rep. said he cares about improving safety not only school-wide, but in individual classrooms after speaking with many teachers. Anderson said the classrooms must be a safe environment for learning and not places to discipline students.
