Our society forces everything from political figures and media companies into one of two political categories. It’s become an unstoppable battle that should never have begun.

Incumbent Republican Judge Thomas West, 59, faces off against Barry Johnson, 68, who became a Democrat in December 2023 before filing for election. It is safe to say that neither thinks the other is fit for office. The issue with the opposing candidate, both agree, is not a matter of political lean, but of experience and character.
It’s important to have such beliefs and opinions, but when you’re deconstructing a tragedy and interpreting what happened during it for political gain, you’re no longer just stating your opinion. Instead, you’re taking the tragedy, removing the tragic aspect of it — the side that calls for sympathy or understanding — and using the situation for your own gain.
When all we do is see our fellow citizens as their political identities — or hopelessly attempt to categorize them when we are unsure — we are doing a disservice to ourselves and those around us. Human connection breaks down when all we want to do is hate “the other side.” Most of the time, we really don’t even know who the “other side” actually is.
Even though not all of the songs featured during the concert may have been my personal favorite, Muse made up for it with an amazing stage presence and flawless execution of vocal and instrumental performances by all three members of the band.
As someone who studies and writes about politics, I’m in the trenches when it comes to policy issues and the happenings within the government. If anyone is going to be angry, it’ll likely be me.
