One of the nation’s most iconic Christmas traditions, “The Nutcracker,” will be making its way to Baylor on Dec. 14 for an annual on-campus performance, featuring the Waco Symphony Orchestra, Ballet Frontier and young local Waco performers.

Rebekah Lambert, a Baylor alumna, was appointed as music director and conductor of the Waco Symphony Youth Orchestra and co-assistant conductor of the Waco Symphony Orchestra. Waco freshman Lydia Gravagne, the new administrator of the youth orchestra, will work alongside her.

Just like in many Baylor Christmas seasons past, the School of Music will hold its annual “A Baylor Christmas” choir and orchestra performances on Dec. 5, 6 and 8. However, the holiday tradition has found a new home this year in Waco Hall, Memphis junior Elie Lassiter said.
While some students have been preparing their arrangements for over a year and a half in advance, others started the process in the spring. Most of the pieces that will be showcased in the concert will be taken from movies or musicals such as “How to Train Your Dragon” and “WALL-E,” Smith said.
She was born with Symbrachydactyly, a condition where she is missing two fingers on her right hand. When deciding which instrument to learn, some instruments that she wanted to play — like the flute or cello — weren’t possible with her age and condition. So, she turned to the viola.
