Upon Kokernot Hall’s anticipated completion this July, the university will finish the plans it set back in 2013. With part of the construction budget now freed up for other projects, it opens up the question of what’s coming next for projects across campus. While there is no confirmed plan for a similarly connected string of renovations, Vice President for Student Life Dr. Sharra Hynes alluded to future projects in a September interview.

At last Thursday’s Student Senate meeting, the Senate voted to recommend renovating five university dorms – Collins, Penland, North Russell, South Russell and Martin. While the plans aren’t final, they will likely call for adding additional student lounge and study spaces, improving bathrooms, replacing floors and ceilings and improving the technological capacities of the residence halls. The plan would be implemented over the next 15 to 20 years.

While safety may be a concern for students on campus late at night, Campus Living & Learning provides a free shuttle service from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. for all on-campus residents. The shuttle is a golf cart driven by one of six safety and security education officers.
