Baylor professors Dr. Benjamin Rose and Dr. Peter James both work with NASA and conduct research for upcoming projects, including the Roman Space Telescope and SPARX lunar mission.

Since mankind has been able to fly, companies have been looking at ways to capitalize on it. Howard Hughes had his Spruce Goose, Jeff Bezos has Blue Origin and Elon Musk has SpaceX. The United States is embarking on a unique era of space travel. We aren’t competing with the USSR to put a man on the moon anymore; the entire paradigm has shifted to looking for the most affordable and accessible ways to get people into space.

While it is important to recognize the significance of an all-female crew, Perry should not be getting more attention than the women who have dreamed their whole life of going to space and worked to do so.

“There is a whole lot of carbon that gets stored in the bays — for example, the Galveston and Corpus Christi bays,” Fulton said. “One of the questions we have is if sea level is rising — and it is rising pretty fast — how will that change the way carbon gets stored in these coastal bays?”

While these ideas are outtakes of a sort, it doesn’t mean they aren’t worthy of their own time to shine. In fact, we’ve decided to push some of our favorites into the spotlight for this last piece. Here they are…

April 8 will be the last time a total solar eclipse passes over Texas until the year 3000. To celebrate, Baylor University, Lowell Observatory, Discovery and the City of Waco are collaborating in Eclipse Over Texas: Live from Waco.

In collaboration with teams at NASA, Purdue University, the University of New Hampshire and Astroport, three Baylor professors are working to make space travel more affordable.

This semester, Baylor’s department of physics welcomed Dr. Benjamin Rose as an assistant professor of physics and project leader for NASA’s infrastructure research for the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. The project requires $11 million in funding and began its next stage in October.

Astronaut Joe Acaba has been all over the world and to outer space and back. His life has taken him from college to the Marine Corps, to the Peace Corps, to NASA.

On Wednesday, Acaba brought his experience and knowledge to Baylor students in a broadcast interview from the Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The interview was broadcast at multiple universities across the southwest. Students who came to Moody Memorial Library were able to ask Acaba questions about the Peace Corps and his other experiences.
