Now that the spring semester is officially underway, international students often look to venture beyond Baylor to experience life in the U.S., particularly in Waco. The Global Friendship Program, a long-standing Baylor program, continues to cultivate a culture of understanding and adventure for students from across the world.

While the U.S. was wrapping up its own governmental crisis at home, world leaders prepared to take the stage at the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference. America, China and India chose not to send formal delegates to the conference this year, a controversial move as three of the world’s largest polluters.

In addition to cancer prevention, Baylor’s research on water and health is impacting global communities. Collaborations with organizations like the Department of Energy and the National Alliance for Water Innovation focus on solving issues such as water security and sustainable water usage. These interdisciplinary projects aim to improve local infrastructure and provide insight to address global water challenges.

“One of the things my students talk about his how fortunate they are to meet each other and hear one another’s stories,” Duncan said. “You see students from all different backgrounds and walks of life becoming friends and learning from one another.”

One panel, moderated by Dr. Dennis Horton, director of ministry guidance, focused on the local church and its role in culture and missions. The panel featured speakers from Christar, Ethnos 360, Casas por Cristo and Wycliffe Bible Translators. Panelists answered questions about culture’s influence on ministry, the multicultural nature of the Gospel and advice for students interested in short-term or long-term missions.
