“The people in administration have a great sense of the big picture and the broader environment, right? But in order to adjust and adapt and steer the university proverbial ship in the right direction, they need line of sight information,” Chevis said. “Unless we speak into that … unless they hear from us about what we’re experiencing, they may make decisions that they think are in the best interest of Baylor, but that aren’t going to play out well.”

The Faculty Senate voted to recommend allowing professors to award “minus” grades — like A-minus, B-minus, etc. — in addition to the traditional plus grading system, leaving the provost’s office with the final say over whether to change university grading policy.

The Faculty Senate joined a national organization’s efforts to reform intercollegiate athletics policies, prioritizing four-year scholarships for some student-athletes, Tuesday at its monthly meeting.

A university-wide policy mandating minimum attendance requirements for all Baylor students is no more, but most students will still be required to attend 75 percent of their course lectures to receive a passing grade.

Dr. Elizabeth Davis, executive vice president and provost, visited Faculty Senate at its meeting Tuesday night and engaged in a discussion centered on the line of communication from the provost through to the deans, to the department chairs, and then to the faculty.

Baylor Information Technology Services finished implementing a new Internet filtering tool for the campus network Monday in an effort to further protect anyone on the Baylor network from connecting to untrustworthy sites.
