Baylor launched its annual Domestic Violence Awareness Month events at the beginning of October. Valerie Willis, assistant vice president for Equity, Civil Rights and Title IX, shared how the month’s events aim to foster education, awareness and action.

According to the report, campus burglaries increased by 18 reports, and on-campus stalking increased by 25 reports since last year. This sharp increase is contrasted with other categories like rape and aggravated assault, whose numbers have remained relatively the same year by year.
“BUPD encourages students and others to securely lock motorized scooters and bicycles with a U-lock in well-lit locations that generally have a lot of people around. It’s also advisable to check on a locked scooter or bike regularly,” Fogleman wrote in an email.
“Campus safety is a comprehensive effort across the university, so we don’t employ security measures only based on this report. We do it because it’s the right thing to do and a reflection of our caring campus community,” Fogleman said.
The number of stalking cases at Baylor rose by about 74% from 2021 to 2022, according to the 2023 Annual Fire Safety and Security Report. This increase has been seen across multiple campuses as stalking becomes more prevalent and recognized at colleges.
The online Baylor University Crime Log is now functioning after not being updated from Sept. 20 to Nov. 6 due to a technical issue. Following the fix, information for 73 cases was uploaded.
