Wes Yeary is the athletic chaplain at Baylor. Yeary’s connection with Baylor dates back to 1983 when he played for the Bears under Grant Teaff as a defensive back. He has been working with student-athletes at Baylor with an emphasis on spiritual growth and support since he joined the staff in 2008. Yeary is head of Baylor’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

It’s become drilled into society that millennials are considered one of the most self-serving, uninterested, spoiled generations to ever exist. This comes along with the upbringing we had which included excessive numbers of participation awards and unwarranted bouts of encouragement.

After fielding a lineup that boasted a wealth of Division I basketball experience during the past season, Baylor basketball will be forced to go back to the drawing board to find production for next season. This past week, two Baylor faculty members — Kyle and Jennifer Massey — protested the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR test. They wrote a letter to the principal of their son’s Waco Independent School District school arguing that they have the legal right to keep their son from participating in the test.

The objectification of women in advertising is diverse and ubiquitous: the female body is used to sell everything from fast food to cars to hair care products. This objectification is symptomatic of a larger social problem: the tendency to define women by their sexuality. As deplorable as this form of advertising is, it is so common that I’ve almost become desensitized to it. However, the last place I would have expected to see it is in a poster promoting International Justice Week for Baylor’s chapter of the International Justice Mission (IJM).

Streaks of green and flashes of gold are turning up in competitive arenas across the country, and academics are no different. Three Baylor students were recognized by the research-based Goldwater Scholarship Program this month, with two receiving scholarships and one earning honorable mention.
