The 2013 season was a tough one for Baylor volleyball, filled with injuries and unfulfilled expectations.
The Bears lost freshman phenom Katie Staiger in only the second match of the season and sophomore outside hitter Thea Munch-Soegaard to a foot injury later, while struggling to a 12-20 record on the year and 4-12 in conference play.

A Connecticut teen has become a gender equality sensation after her letter to McDonald’s headquarters went viral online. In the letter, Antonia Ayres-Brown wrote about how displeased she was with McDonald’s for how it passes out toys for its Happy Meals.

Freshman Vince Schneider traveled all the way from Mannheim, Germany, to play tennis for the Bears. Schneider reached the 2012 Doubles Finals in the German Championships, won both the singles and doubles competition in the 2012 ITF Tournament, and was named to the German Junior Davis Cup Team. As a Bear, Schneider has competed in both doubles and single matches in the Big 12.

The National Panhellenic Board of Directors adopted Unanimous Agreement X, a piece of legislation that prohibits the attendance of National Panhellenic Council sorority women at men’s rush events, in November 2011. However, Baylor Panhellenic Council had yet to enforce the policy — until now.

Naomi Dews’ life as a student at Baylor took an unexpected turn after her father passed in 2010 because of diabetic complications. The following year, she joined Community HealthCorps, a national service organization whose mission is to make health care more accessible to underprivileged people.

The Bears were able to use early offense to their advantage, scoring seven runs through three innings in a decisive 7-1 victory over the visiting North Texas Mean Green Tuesday at Getterman Stadium.

Vaccinations are an important aspect of a child’s health, but broader than that, they are an important aspect of public health. Knowing this, it seems ridiculous that people would even fathom not vaccinating their children. Unfortunately from the creation of the first vaccine until now, the mindset of not vaccinating children has persisted. Vaccines prevent diseases and make the world a much safer place. The fact that they do not cause autism is just the cherry on top. To spell that out clearly, vaccinations do not cause autism.

For the first time since 2009, Baylor baseball was swept at home by a Big 12 rival. The Bears hung in the balance late in games one and three, but the Kansas Jayhawks’ offense thumped a lethal strike to Baylor’s Big 12 championship hopes over the weekend by earning a three-game road sweep.

Baylor men’s and women’s tennis dominated the weekend, winning both Big 12 Championship crowns.
For the seventh time overall, the Baylor women’s tennis team won the Big 12 Championship with a 4-1 victory over No. 25 Oklahoma State on Sunday at the Bayard H. Tennis Center.
