Baylor history professor Dr. Robert Elder is the first Baylor faculty member to be awarded the Public Scholars grant from the NEH to help his future book project about the nullification crisis, a conflict between South Carolina and the federal government in the 1830s.

The show was comprised of music majors and majors from across the campus, led by Alex Parker, the director of the Wayne Fisher Jazz Ensemble. The group performed a spirited set featuring American jazz composers Jeff Jarvis, Pete McGuinness and Bob Florence.

Vibrant artwork brought Baylor students and South Waco residents together this past weekend at the South Waco Community Center, where a new mural was unveiled in celebration of Hispanic culture and community pride.

Baylor should absolutely celebrate its traditions, its faith and, of course, its close-knit culture. Those things are what’s worth holding onto. However, if the goal is to nurture students who can make an impact anywhere, Baylor has to challenge us to grow beyond the Baylor bubble. Otherwise, we risk being prepared solely for life here and not for the life that awaits us all after we leave.
